I was immediately impacted by Jenita Pace’s transparency and disarming honesty. I love to read, but I have never read a book as unique as this one. She winsomely and compassionately invites us to see her in some of her darkest moments
If you (or someone you love) struggle with despair, depression, regret, suffering (of any sort) and/or grief, you will find this book to be the faithful friend you’ve been looking for. Jenita has done something here that is rare among Christian writers. As she tackles the theologically sound and familiar names of Jesus in Scripture, she has skillfully unpacked them exposing the irresistible love and welcome that is central to the Good News. It is surprising and refreshing how intimately she connects broken people to the profound hope found in Jesus’s character. The Healing Names of Jesus goes far beyond simple thoughtful inspirational devotions to taking us boldly into the Presence of God as she personally intercedes for the reader. Her compassionate and wise writing style are consistent with who she is and Who she worships.
Perhaps one of the most winsome aspects of Pace’s book is how she personally invites the reader to lovingly and graciously face the things no one wants to address or admit. It is like she unassumingly knocks on our door with her gentle spirit, takes our hands and enters into our often lonely worlds of silent desperation. Jenita looks depression and anxiety in the eyes and strips them of their power by unveiling how the names of YHWH reveal the One True God as the Friend, Protector, Counselor, and Hero we could only dream and hope would exist.
Scripture promises “whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” (Prov 11.25 – NIV). Jenita, thank you for taking the risks necessary for those of us in the most desperate places to bring us the only refreshment that can satisfy our deepest longings.
You will save yourself (and those you love) a great deal of needless fears and hopeless despair by reading, absorbing, rereading and passing this book along to others so that you too can refresh others as you are refreshed. I plan to keep “The Healing Names of Jesus” close at hand and have an extra copy or two for others.
